Image23During my trip in Normandy we came across the Major Winters monument. This monument is dedicated to all who took lead during the invasion of Normandy in 1944. Major Winters is known for his outstanding leadership while he was in command of Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division. On D-Day he took lead in the attack on Brecourt Manor and the nearby German trenches. The attack is shown in the second episode of HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and today still being used as an example for military training.

On the pillar of the statue there’s a quote:DSC00882
“Wars do not make men great, but they bring out the greatness in good men”
Richard D. Winters
Easy Company, 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment
101st Airborne Division
